At least 10 people, among them Trans Nzoia County Assembly Speaker Joshua Werunga, are nursing bullet wounds following confrontation with police.
The people are said to have been shot by police officers at Kolongolo village in Kwanza.
The officers had gone to arrest a man suspected to have attacked a woman but a confrontation ensued leading to the shooting incident.
The injured victims were taken to Mt Elgon Hospital in Kitale but Mr Werunga has been transferred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
