Over 200 million has been raised for the 17th edition of the 2019 Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon set to host over 25000 participants.
The bank has increased the Price money to 2 million for the 47 km race winner ,300k for the 21km winner and 200k for the 10km winner.
CEO of Standard Chartered Kariuki Ngari says that the Standard Chartered plan is to raise USD 50 million in five years through initiatives like the marathon which is set to empower 500000 adolescent girls,support 100000 youths towards Employability,and build the entrepreneurship capability of 50000 micro and small businesses.
The offical launch of the marathon has opened up the window for registration which will be opened till 15th October for the marathon to be held on 27th October and all participants can register online in the official Marathon website at a fee of ksh 2000 and Ksh 2500 for late registration.
This years’ event has attracted partners like the Athletic Kenya ,Nairobi City County Government,All terrain Services, Subaru ,Kenya International Conference Center (KICC) and Fairmont.
Sports Ps Ambassador kirimi Kiberia says that the marathon will be fair and they will work together with the anti doping agencies of kenya to ensure the results of the marathon are clean.
What is different about this marathon and other marathons held previously is the fact they will adopt new tech gadgets to get new running times.
During the launch of the marathon the bank announced the launch of the new community initiative FUTUREMAKERS a new global innitiative to open up opportunities for the next generation to learn,earn and grow.
