2,000 families to benefit from water project in Kajiado – KBC

More than 2,000 families and 5,000 livestock are set to benefit from 23 million shillings water project in Kajiado central sub county in awake of looming drought in the region.

The project funded by the World Bank targets involves sinking boreholes among other interventions.

The Enkeseruna, Irmotiok water project currently at phase two is expected to bring to an end the long walks by residents who have in the past trekked for 0ver 30 kilometers in search of water.

While launching the second phase of the project, Kajiado county Water CEC Michael Semera said the county government has come up with water master plan that will ensure borehole are sunk in the right places to supply water to residents, schools and neighbouring villages.

Currently, the effects of drought are visible with prices of livestock dismally low to the chagrin of herders Who are appealing to the county government to set up more storage tanks to ensure steady flow of water for their livestock.

The water project has the capacity of supplying 500,000 liters of water daily to 2,000 homes and more than 5,000 livestock. The second phase of the project is expected to be complete in the next six months
