Five police officers attached to the Mathare Police station were injured during the Azimio protests that took place on Monday.
The five include Huruma OCS Robert Mugo who injured his hand, Pangani OCS CI Muktar who sprained his left ankle.
Another officer who injured his back after he was pelted with stones and fell down.
A police report seen by Ghetto Radio states that another corporal injured his thigh after he was hit by a stone thrown by one of the protesters.
A female officer according to the OB was also hit with a stone on the thigh and right hand.
“At around 1630 hrs when a convoy of more than 20 vehicles for Azimio leader emerged from Pangani general direction towards Huruma. In front of the convoy and by the sides were violent youths chanting pro-Azimio slogans and looting some business along the road, the officers engaged them, but they pelted the officers with stones and other crude weapons thereby overwhelming them,” reads the report.
“In the process the OCS C.I Muktar sustained a dislocation on his left ankle, IP Kinywa was hit with a stone on his right leg, IP Moenga was hit with a stone on his right knee and fell down injuring his back. CPL Kirui sustained pains on his left thigh after being hit with a stone and PC(W) Moraa was hit on her left thigh and right arm thereby sustaining pains,” the report further reads.
During the melee a pocket phone of one of the police officers was allegedly stolen by one of the protesters.
“As IP Moenga fell down and the rioters were baying for his blood, his pocket phone registered under mathare five fell and got lost in the melee.”
The injured officers were reportedly treated in various hospitals around the city and discharged.
