A 65-year-old man has been arrested in Muthinga, Nyeri County, for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl.
The man will appear in court today to answer to defilement charges after police reported they had gathered enough evidence to prosecute him.
According to the class six pupil, the man lured her into his house and defiled her on two separate occasions.
Police records show that the accused defiled the girl on January 7 in his house.
The class six pupil from Muthinga, Nyeri County, told the Nation on that day, she had been watching television in the man’s house with her friends who later left.
“He (the accused) approached me as I went to change the television channel and started caressing me. When my friends came back, he pretended to be shutting the window,” she narrated.
The girl claims that the man took her to one of the bedrooms where he defiled her after her friends had left.
“He took my clothes off and pushed me to the bed. Then he defiled me,” she said.
The suspect reportedly gave her money and snacks to remain silent.
The girl’s guardian said that they did not suspect anything until they noticed she had a lot of money.
“I tried to dig into the matter but she did not open up. So, I decided to use a woman who was close to her and that is when the girl revealed that she had been defiled,” the guardian said.
The girl’s relatives later reported the case to Nyeri Central Police Station.
“She opened up to the police and we were instructed to take her for medical examination,” the guardian said.
Nyeri Central Divisional Police Commander Paul Kuria on Thursday told the Nation that the medical examination report showed that the girl had been defiled.
“The man has been arrested and is still in police custody. We have investigated the case and we have the medical report that shows the girl was defiled. The suspect will be taken to court and charged with defilement,” Mr Kuria said in an interview on Thursday.
