A majority of Kenyans are in support of a referendum and are calling for an all-inclusive government.

This was revealed in an opinion poll survey among 800 respondents in 15 counties.

The survey shows 65% of Kenyans feel a change in the constitution is the answer to the current governance and socio-economic challenges.

A survey conducted by Infortrak who partnered with the Integrated Development Network (IDN) between 9th and 11th February indicates more than half of Kenya’s adult population at 65 per cent believe a change of the constitution will fix the often turbulent election period.

Infotrack Research Manager Walter Nyabundi while releasing the polls said 52 per cent of those who supported the constitution change feel there is a need to make the government more inclusive.

38 per cent of Kenyans who support the constitution review said they feel over-represented and there was a need to reduce the number of elected leaders.

The survey also shows support for the referendum is lower in Central and Eastern Kenya compared to the other regions of the country.

The two research institutions observed Kenyans want devolution strengthened through the allocation of more funds to counties.

IDN director Dennis Wendo said corruption was however identified as a key threat to devolution.

The survey was conducted in 15 counties with 800 respondents.
