8 Kenyan Celebrities Who Had SHOCKING Jobs Before They Were Famous

The 8 celebrities below did not time-travel to where they are today, most of them took low-paying jobs before opportunity knocked on their doors. 

#1. Octopizzo

 The Kibera bred rapper has come a long way. Before the gold chains and designer sneakers, Octopizzo worked as a ‘mjengo’ guy and an electrician in Industrial Area.

‘‘I have been a real hustler, I have done ‘mjengo’ and other hustles. I believe these taught me some life lessons,’’ the rapper said.

#2. Larry Madowo

 

Born in Siaya and raised in Kisumu, the popular TV presenter who lost both his parents at a very young age had to help in his aunt’s tea and mandazi kiosk in Gikomba in a bid to raise funds for their upkeep.

#3. Kalekye Mumo

Her first real job after school was in 2001 where she worked as an office administrator at Homeboyz Radio before joining Kiss FM as a radio presenter and later venturing into her own businesses.

‘I was almost kidnapped when I was a kid,’ Sean Andrew.

#4. Jalang’o

Jalas lived in various slums of Nairobi and even worked as a casual labourer at Industrial area. Right now he’s one of the most influential Kenyan celebrities.

At one point he was a fishmonger.

#5. Maina Kageni

Before becoming the Maina that we all know and celebrate, the Classic FM presenter worked as a garbage truck driver in the UK before getting into car dealership.

#6. Vicmass Lluodollar

The ‘bank otuch’ star worked for several years as a hawker in Kisumu before saving enough money to afford studio time. His track featuring Octopizzo is currently one of the biggest jams in the country.

#7. Huddah Monroe 

Before becoming a global jet setter, it’s alleged that the now popular socialite used to sell mandazi somewhere in Eastlands. She now drives a customized Range Rover and lives in a 50-million-shilling house in Runda.

#8. Frasha –  Also known as Dakitare, the P-Unit’s Frasha used to work at the Aga Khan Hospital as a physiotherapist until 2011 when they released ‘Kare’. He enrolled at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in 1999 – 2002.

In 2013, the rapper offered to set up a physiotherapy unit for the Meru School for the Mentally.
