Kenyans on Twitter have started writing to their MPs urging them to vote against proposed amendments to the Finance Bill, 2008 on Thursday.
The campaign to reach out to MP was kicked off on Wednesday by Nasa leader Raila Odinga’s son Raila Junior who communicated his reservations to Kibra MP Ken Okoth.
Junior urged Twitter users to make it known to their respective MPs that they are against any introduction of VAT on petroleum products, however small the percentage.
A day earlier, Raila Junior had publicly differed with his father after the latter chaired a Nasa parliamentary group meeting and resolved to support the 8 per cent VAT.
Good Morning folks, yesterday I tweeted my local MP asking him to reject amendments to the finance Bill on VAT, a lot of people retweeted, liked, commented. If you really want to use your social media voice effectively speak directly to your local MP as I did. #Kenyansfirst

Dear @HonTimWanyonyi I voted for you. Tomorrow you have one job: vote against @UKenyatta memorandum. I don’t want to pay VAT on fuel or additional taxes on my mobile phone bill

I also urge my member of Parliament @RealJaguarKenya and woman rep @EstherPassaris not to support the finance bill as proposed by @UKenyatta . VAT on fuel should remain at 0%.
But in case my pleas fall on deaf ears, well, just know that the ground will only get hotter.
