Sony Sugar forward Enoch Agwanda has been named the SportPesa/LG/Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) Player of the Month of August.

Agwanda, who also won the award in July, beat Nakumatt forward Joe Waithira to the accolade in the poll conducted by SJAK football committee.

The former Gor Mahia and Sofapaka man scored four goals and provided two assists to his teammates as the 2006 SportPesa Premier League champions continued with their resurgence in the league under the tutelage of coach Patrick Odhiambo.

“It is a great feeling to become the first player to win this award twice. I thank God for everything and the coach for instilling confidence in me. Our target still remains to finish in the top five,” said Agwanda after receiving the award at Awendo Stadium on Thursday.

For his impressive performance, Agwanda, who re-joined the side in June from second tier outfit Ushuru, was awarded Sh100 000, a trophy and a 49-inch LG TV courtesy of the sponsors, while the 10th placed side got an extra Sh50,000 for their contribution to the player’s exploits.

Sony coach Odhiambo said with the striker’s form, they can hit their top five target.

“I thank God for his (Agwanda) recognition. He deserves it and it is a morale booster to the team. We had targeted top five and we believe it is still achievable,” said Odhiambo.

The burly striker netted his first goal of the month from the spot in their 3-1 victory over relegation threatened Thika United on August 5 before scoring the lone goal against Ulinzi Stars on August 12.
