In the morning, there is an unbelievable rush to get to work or to drop the kids in school. The last thing you want to think about is checking your car to make sure all is well. But it is essential to check your car before driving off, the best part is that it will only take less than 5 minutes. Picture this, 5 minutes used instead of hours in the garage:

1. Tire pressure

Before entering the car, walk around and check on your tire pressure. You may be in a hurry but this little check can save you from having to stop on the side of the road later and asking for help. At the same time, check is any of the bolts are loose.

2. Check under the car

For possible oil leaks and wandering animals like cats who ,like hiding under the car. We don’t mean getting on your hands and knees when checking, just an angled  glance under the car. Generally at the front of your car where the engine is located.

3.Start your car

Lower your window(s) then start your car. Usually when starting up the car, fumes from the engine can make their way to the inside of the car. These fumes are not good for you, so by opening the window, they have an out let and some fresh air can come in.

4. Listen to your engine

Turn off the radio and really pay attention to how your engine sounds. Usually in the morning when its quiet enough you can pick up any strange sounds that may alert you to a problem with the car.

5. Check for any warning signs on your dashboard

The dashboard has in-built warning signs to alert the driver. These include the engine oil check, temperature and even engine power depending on your car make. Keep an eye out for any sign that is usually not there and call for assistance if you feel like the situation might be serious.

6. Let your engine warm up

The worst thing you can do is turn the ignition and speed off immediately. In the long run, it will affect your engine and you will end up losing engine power. It takes approximately 3 minutes for the engine of a saloon car to warm up. These few minutes ensure that the petrol has travelled through the engine and the car is ready to be moved. You will also notice that your car has more power when you move.

7. Ease your car out of the parking spot

Even if you are in a hurry, let your car smoothly move away from the parking spot. The further you get the more you press down on the accelerator. Remember your car was stationary for several hours and needs to be allowed some time before racing down the highway.

If you do implement these steps in your daily routine, you will notice how well behaved your car is. Moreover the trips to the mechanic will be less frequent.
