President Uhuru Keyatta on Monday announced that he had nominated lawyer Gershom Otachi as the new chairperson for the National Land Commission (NLC).
Otachi, who may replace Muhhamud Swazuri, was part of the defense team that represented President Kenyatta, his deputy William Ruto and 4 others during their ICC proceedings in 2013.
Mr Otachi is also a managing partner at the law firm where President Uhuru Kenyatta selected the current Solicitor General, Kennedy Ogeto.
Otachi is currently serving as the chair for the Geothermal Development Corporation after President Kenyatta renewed his three-year term in 2018.
Others nominated for NLC positions
President Kenyatta also forwarded names of other nominees he would like the National Assembly to vet for the positions of NLC commissioners.
These are former Labour Secretary Kazungu Kambi, former Nyeri Town MP Esther Murugi, former Egerton University Vice- Chancellor James Tuitoek, property valuer Reginald Okumu, Hubbie Hussein Al-Haji, Alister Murimi Mutugi, former Isiolo woman Representative Tiya Galgalo and Getrude Nduku Nguku.
Swazuri’s term at the NLC was marred with numerous corruption allegations that eventually saw him ousted in February.
