Details have emerged of a series of clues and confessions linking Migori governor Okoth Obado to the gruesome murder of Sharon Otieno.
The Nation quoted a confidential source familiar with the investigations stating that statements obtained from suspects alleged the governor’s involvement and will form part of the evidence.
The paper also reported discrepancies in the statement recorded by the governor in the murder that has seen several of his close associates arrested as police seek to unmask the killers.
A well-placed source was quoted by The Nation stating that “There were discrepancies in his earlier statement. That was why we wanted to talk to him again (on Friday), but by Thursday we had collected enough evidence to sustain a case”.
A compilation of detailed mobile phone data comprising of phone calls, messages and location will also be used.
Nation quoted the source questioning: “Was he in Nairobi or in Homa Bay County on the night of the murder?” adding that the governor was in constant communication with key suspects, some of whom are already in police custody.
Reports from multiple credible media houses indicate that call logs as well as statements obtained from three suspects, two of whom are in police custody contradict Obado’s account.
Obado who distanced himself from the gruesome murder was locked up by police on Friday despite protests from his lawyer Cliff Ombeta.
The Migori county boss is expected to be presented in court on Monday.
