The government remains resolute in its directive to have settlers in the Mau leave voluntarily within the 60 days ultimatum issued at the beginning of September. 

Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko and Rift Valley Regional Coordinator George Natembeya want those still residing within the catchment area to vacate before the end of the ultimatum.

28 days after  the government issued a 60 days ultimatum for settlers in the Maasai Mau, one of the 22 blocks of the expansive Mau Complex, to vacate, it remains unyielding saying that the ultimatum will not be reviewed.

Speaking at the burial of the late Transport Licensing Board  Chair Hassan Ole Kamwaro,  CS Tobiko and George Natembeya urged those still in the Maasai Mau to move out voluntarily before the end of the ultimatum.

They hit on Mau issue saying that Mau issue is unstoppable saying nobody will make them stop focusing of what they stated and those in Mau must come out after those 60 days and nobody will stop them.

Sentiments echoed by Narok North MP Moitalel ole Kenta who lauded the government’s efforts to restore the forest.

They thanked the government saying they are in support of them to make sure those in Mau Forest are removed his sentiment was echoed by Junet Mohammed Suna east MP, MP Roysambu Waihenya Ndirangu and others.

Security in the area has been enhanced ahead of the second phase of the water towers restoration which is estimated to affect over 6,000 households.

The Mau is the largest water tower in the country supporting millions of human life and wildlife in Kenya and neighboring countries.
