Police in Lamu have arrested a woman who had gone missing shortly after setting her home on fire during a domestic quarrel with her husband.
Mrs Teresia Wanjiru, 22, a mother of a one-year-old, is reported to have set the house and all the belongings ablaze at KenGen area in Mpeketoni, Lamu West on Thursday.
Neighbours who were interviewed by the Nation said the two had frequently been involved in domestic squabbles which would even end in physical altercations.
Mr John Kimani said the couple has a behaviour of not talking to anyone every time their disagreements become public.
CONSTANT FIGHTS
“They have lived in KenGen for the past two years. They’re always quarrelling but they don’t share their problems with neighbours. Before the wife set the house on fire, she threatened to kill her husband, James Mburu Kinyanjui and her child. They fought before the woman disappeared only to reappear later and torch the house before fleeing,” said Mr Kimani.
Mr Emmanuel Wanyoike, a neighbour, asked young couples to learn how to solve issues without taking extreme measures, including destroying property or suicide.
AWAITING CHARGES
While confirming the incident, Mpeketoni OCPD Harrison Njuguna said they had already arrested the woman and that she would be arraigned.
“We investigated the matter and even arrested the lady. In fact, she will be presented in court any time to be charged with arson,” said Mr Njuguna.
