AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda has warned arch rival Gor Mahia to prepare for a showdown and be ready to relinquish the KPL title this season in their favour.
Shikanda made his intentions clear stating that they are going for nothing short of at least 72 points to be in a pole position to snatch the crown from Gor’s stronghold.
After featuring for both Leopards and Gor Mahia during his playing career, Leopards chief is upbeat that his boys can be consistent enough all the way to finishing top of the log.
Record 18-time champions Gor won last season’s title on 72 points after 21 wins, 9 draws and 4 defeats while Leopards, this term, have so far registered three wins, drawn and lost.
The Leopards boss has at the same time urged fans to flock to Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani on October 18 after the international break to psyche the boys when they take on the power men Western Stima.
“I want to call upon fans to rally behind the team as we focus on maximum points in the next fixture.
“We are targeting 72 plus points this season which will enable us to be in a better position to be crowned champions,” Shikanda charged.
The 12-time champions were awarded three points and two goals after Sony Sugar failed to honour their fixture on Saturday at Green Stadium in Awendo demanding to be paid their salary arrears.
The three points catapulted them into second position on 10 points two behind defending champions Gor Mahia.
Leopards’ players resume training Wednesday under the tutelage of head coach Casa Mbungo after a two days break.
“The players will return for training today (Wednesday) as we plan for a friendly over the weekend before the league resumes the following weekend,” Shikanda added.
The chairman has also noted that they are doing all within their powers to motivate the playing unit with a debt of close to Sh12m in salary arrears and sign on fees for new players yet to be paid. This has put a stain on the team’s meagre earnings.
The team has been depending on the support of fans and well wishers to meet some of their basic requirements, with fans being rallied to register as members through short code *417#.
