Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has come out with shocking revelations, claiming he stopped a move to steal millions in the Dandora Stadium project which has been marred with corruption allegations.
In a new twist of events, the flamboyant Governor now alleges that the engineers mandated with the projected wanted to steal Sh. 100M by inflating the budget.
Sonko made these revelations on Monday, when he was hosted in the Radio Citizen’s prime show Jambo Kenya.
“Dandora is one of the best stadiums, but there was sabotage from the engineers tasked with the project. When I called for a meeting with the contractors, engineers and even local leaders, I asked how the budget of the contractor was was totaling to Sh. 255 million while that of engineers was Sh. 355 million, they(engineers) said it was typing error,” Sonko said.
Sonko further stated that Nairobi County had only paid Sh. 96 million towards the project, contrary to reports and allegations the budget of the stadium had been hiked.
He termed the reports as ‘fabrications’ and that they would only pay money towards what is being done rightly.
The Governer also said he will continue developing sports in the Nairobi, completing up the eight stadia he had planned for, in a budget of one billion.
The stadia will be in two phases, with the first one including Dandora,Westlands, Woodley Kibera, Ziwani. Phase two will include Mihang’o, Muuhuri Muchiri and Mukuru kwa Njenga.
