Barasa Foundation Inter-Academy Games lights up Kakamega – Weekly Citizen

Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Managing Director Fernandes Barasa is the talk of Kakamega County after sponsoring a successful flurry of sports activities that kept youth from the region busy and entertained  during the December holidays.

The move has caused  ruckus with a section of leaders and locals from the County calling on politicians and other perceived wealthy individuals to emulate similar gesture instead of only becoming visible during political campaigns when hunting for votes.

Barasa through his foundation vowed to work closely with other like-minded stakeholders in support of youth in talent development.

He added that the foundation together with other well-wishers have mapped out an innovative plan to uplift youths, women and the elderly within Kakamega County.

He observed that the County has immense sports and other talents that ought to be harnessed and developed to ensure that such untapped potentials do not go to waste besides earning talented youths a decent living.

In a powerfully inspiring speech during a colourful event marked at Bulimbo primary school grounds in Matungu constituency, Barasa, accompanied by wife Janet who doubles as the foundation chairman, mentioned successful sports personalities such as Victor Wanyama, MacDonald Mariga among others as products of positively harnessed talents.

Winners in various categories were awarded expensive gold, silver and bronze trophies in full glare of about three thousand (3,000) fans comprising of politicians, opinion and religious leaders, students and sports enthusiast from Kakemega County.

Barasa Foundation has been hailed for impressive and innovative ideas notably among others, the Motorbike program that has seen more than 400 youths from various constituencies in Kakamega county benefit from the same.
