Tecno’s latest smartphone, the Spark 5, is now available for purchase in the country.

According to Tecno, the device is going for Kshs 14,000.

At that price, the Tecno Spark 5 is at the starting line of Tecno’s post-Kshs 10,000 smartphones with the next device in that line being from the company’s Camon series and going all the way to just under Kshs 30,000.

As such, it is likely to be a sure choice for many in this market that are not already served by Tecno’s other entry-level devices or that may find its upgraded feature set appealing.

The Tecno Spark 5 succeeds the Tecno Spark 4 which went on sale in the country last October.

Of course, as can be expected of any upgrade, the Spark 5 brings with it several new additions to Tecno’s entry-level smartphone lineup.

Top on the list is the renewed focus on photography for this particular segment of the market, something that previously mainly been a playground for “Air” variants of Tecno’s camera-centred Camon smartphone brand.

With 4 cameras at the back, the Spark 5 is taking the war to its competitor’s doorsteps with what Tecno is touting to be superior imaging capabilities, at least for a device of its profile, thanks to its AI smarts.

“With its upgraded AI Camera 3.0 algorithm and AI Scene Detection, users will transform their photography experience,” Tecno notes in a release announcing the device’s availability in the local market.

The Tecno Spark 5 also joins the list of budget smartphones that one can get in the local market that run on Android 10 straight out of the box. This is particularly important as the release of Android 11, currently under testing, nears. You don’t want to be the one stuck with a device running on Pie and your ticket to updated software, as is often the case for devices at this price range, is to go out and buy yet another device when you really don’t have to.
