Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru on Monday donated assorted foodstuff to the Muslim Community in the County in celebration of Eid-al- Fitir.
About 300 Muslim families drawn from Kutus and Kagio received bales of chapati flour and rice among other foodstuff.
The County Executive Committee member for Agriculture, Jacqueline Njogu, delivered the food on behalf of the Governor.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Chairman of Imam Council in Central Kenya, Imam Hamis Muiruri, thanked the Governor saying they were humbled by the gesture as they celebrated Eid-il-Fitir.

He said that due to the challenges posed by Covid-19 among them loss of jobs, many of the faithful could not afford to celebrate as they did in previous years.
The Imam who was speaking at Sagana Mosque said that the act by the Governor demonstrated her commitment in serving the people of Kirinyaga.
Aisha Juma, a committee member of Sagana Muslim Mosque also thanked the Governor for the gift of food saying that many families could not have celebrated the event due to lack of food.
“We are thanking the Governor for remembering us during these challenging times of Covid. It is a demonstration of the Governor’s love for the Muslim community.” Said Mohammed Hussein of Kutus Muslim community.
Hussein also urged political leaders in the County to desist from politics that could derail the development agenda of the County and instead put their efforts in performing their respective roles in order to take the County forward.
