A GSU officer deployed at Lokori was on Tuesday shot while responding to an attack by suspected Pokot bandits from Baringo who ambushed kraals in Turkana East.

Confirming the incident, Turkana East OCPD Salim Fundi said the officer was shot on the left thigh.

The armed bandits ambushed three kraals; Lomumua, Kalokume and Lomunyenakwaan in Turkana east and made away with an unknown number of animals.

Fundi said the officer was taken to Lokori Hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.

“The animals were grazing just about 30km from Lokori centre. More than 150 suspected Pokot bandits from Tiaty constituency in Baringo ambushed and drove away animals,” he said.

Fundi said the security officers who responded managed to recover 200 animals and are working closely with security personnel from Baringo county to ensure all animals are recovered.
