Kimilili Member of Parliament elect Didmus Barasa is set to take plea at the Kakamega High Court today.
Barasa is accused of killing Brian Olunga, an aide of his political opponent Brian Khaemba in Chebukwabi in Kimilili, Bungoma County.
Barasa allegedly went into hiding for a few days after the incident.
He was later arrested by the DCI after he presented himself to the police after a directive from DCI Boss George Kinoti demanded that he surrenders himself within six hours.
“A specialized team of detectives drawn from the Homicide branch, Digital and Cybercrime and the Forensic Crime Scene Investigations units have since conducted comprehensive investigations and placed Hon Barasa at the scene of the murder,” says the DCI.

A report issued by ballistic experts state that a cartridge recovered from the scene of crime was fired from the Glock Pistol issued to Barasa.
“This followed a report issued by the ballistic experts after the investigating team forwarded Hon Barasa’s Glock Pistol, a cartridge retrieved from the scene and bullet fragments to the ballistic lab for forensic analysis. The report noted that the recovered cartridge was fired by the Glock pistol issued to Hon Barasa,” says the DCI.
Further, a postmortem report by the government pathologist opined that the cause of death was severe head injury occasioned by a gunshot wound.
During the autopsy, bullet fragments were also retrieved from the deceased’s brain.
