Nairobi County Assembly has increased bursary allocation from the current Ksh. 3.5 million to Ksh. 6 Million per ward in this financial year.

This was revealed in a supplementary budget tabled yesterday in the House by budget chairman Wilfred Oluoch.

According to Odalo they have done so in line with Governor Johnson Sakaja’s manifesto to Nairobi residents.

“We voted for this budget before in consultation with the Governor, we have also budgets in other sectors especially the insurance and we have only six months to end this financial Year. That’s why we have slashed Ksh. 400 million in this sector. That said, we have also given Ksh. 6 million to bursary fund per ward. Initially the MCAs were being given Ksh. 3.5 million,” Odalo told the media at Cityhall.

“It is a good move by the governor and budget committee, the initial Ksh. 3.5 million was too small because we have huge populations of needy students in our wards.. So we must congratulate our governor for this,” Rose Masitza Makina MCA said.

The money is now expected to be disbursed in the beginning of first term next year.
