A top candidate for the chairman’s position in this year’s Boxing Association of Kenya elections Kennedy Otieno has urged the Registrar of sports to hasten the process of approving clubs that have complied with the Sports Act-2013 in order to make them eligible to participate in the voting process.

The date for the elections is yet to be announced.

Kennedy Otieno is one of two candidates who will vie for the chairman’s position.

Otieno has outlined his key agenda for the national office in case he is elected to the helm of the amateur wing of boxing in the Country.

The aspirant hopes to revive commissions that will help the country rediscover its lost glory, fight corruption, bring accountability and advocate for the welfare of boxers.

Last year in December, Sports cabinet secretary Rashid Echesa formed a 12-man committee to look into the modalities of holding free and fair elections.

The meeting agreed to expand the voting counties from the current nine to 19, which would include the Kenya Defence Forces, Kenya Police and Kenya Prisons.

Otieno will contest for the top seat with former heavyweight boxer Anthony Otieno after incumbent John Kameta confirmed he would not seek re-election.

Meanwhile, the National Novices Boxing championship, that has attracted 16 counties and three clubs, begun Wednesday in Nairobi.
