A pistol which was recovered from two suspected robbers who were on Tuesday night shot dead in Kayole had been stolen from a senior police officer in December 2022.

The two armed suspects were fatally wounded following a fierce shootout with police officers based at Njiru.

The incident happened after police officers who were on patrol along Kang’undo road in an unmarked vehicle noticed a motorbike whose riders appeared to be suspicious.

“They immediately intercepted the bike at Kobil gas station and the in-charge asked the miscreants to identify themselves. But the defiant trio answered with gunfire, provoking a shootout that sent two of them back to their creator instantly,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said in a statement.

The DCI said that an examination of the firearm serial number which was loaded with three rounds of ammunition showed that it had been snatched from a senior officer within Embakasi Police Station in December 2022.

“Crime scene detectives later processed the scene and recovered the relevant exhibits, before moving the bodies of the slain duo to City mortuary,” the DCI said.

On Wednesday, Nairobi News reported that the two suspected robbers were shot dead in Kangure slums in Kayole, Nairobi County.

The police however said two other suspects escaped with gunshot wounds during the incident.

According to the police, officers on patrol in Kosovo area were informed by members of the public that some four middle-aged men were on a stealing spree.

“They informed the officers that they had been robbed by a gang. It is then that the police pursued the suspects whom they eventually cornered,” the police said in a report.

The incident took place just three days after two other suspected armed robbers were shot dead in Dandora, Nairobi County.
