Robert Mugabe’s Death
Zimbabwe’s former President, Robert Mugabe died in 2019 at the age of 95. This was two years after being forced to resign following 37 years in power. He was driven out in a military coup in 2017 after being in power for over 3 decades.
The former president was undergoing treatment in a hospital in Singapore during his death.
Though he was labelled a tyrant in the latter days of his career, the former president was praised for widening access to health and education for his subjects.
But later on, his reign was tainted by the violent repression of his political opponents and the ruin of Zimbabwe’s economic structure.
Mugabe was succeeded by his former right-hand man Emmerson Mnangagwa who was later on accused of betraying his predecessor.
However, Mugabe junior has since been reported to have reconciled with the current President of Zimbabwe and just last year attended a rally where he was publicly welcomed back into the ruling Zanu-PF party.
