NAIROBI, Kenya, March 4 – It promises to be another nail-biting final as Kenya Cup defending champions Kabras Sugar square up to record giants Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) in the curtain raiser of the Kenya Cup finals to be held at Kakamega Showground in Kakamega County.

The sugar milers secured their passageway into the final courtesy of a 38-20 win over Menengai Oilers as the sugar daddies brushed aside Kenya Harlequin 22-10 in another playoff semi-final tie.

Darwin Mukidza got the bankers off to a flying start with two tries in succession, taking the bankers’ lead to 12-0 lead before captain Curtis Lilako scored another to make it 19-0.

Despite the Oilers immediately reducing the deficit to 19-5, Max Kangeri ensured that the bankers would be heading to the interval with a healthy lead when his centre post try brought the scores to 26-5.

Regardless of a brief Menengai resistance that reduced the gap to 26-20 in the second half – in which a Geoffrey Ominde and Samson Onsomu try brought the Oilers back into the game at 26-20 – it proved to be just a false dawn as the bankers soon regained control.

A Samuel Asati try and another Mukidza try ensured that KCB were comfortably in the driving seat at 33-20 before another last-minute try by Michael Kimwele all but confirmed the felines’ ticket in the finals for the umpteenth time.
