Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has slapped former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i with two counts of conspiracy to commit felony and publication of false information contrary to section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes over the alleged raid to his Karen residence on February 8,2023.

However, detectives did not find a formidable reason to immediately detain, arraign and press charges against the former CS in a court of law after 9 hours of wait at the DCI HQ.

The former Interior minister was represented by over six lawyers led by Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omugeni, Rarieda MP Otiendo Amollo and lawyer Danstan Omari.

“The offences being presented against our client were not disclosed hence perceived as an attack to the Gusii nation…. I urge the DCI boss to apply law fairly,” said Omogeni.

The legal team castigated the move to hold their client terming it political, vindictive and a political witch hunt.

The lawyers claimed that the interrogation was a vendetta as detectives did not conduct a criminal investigation as communicated in the summons.

“We have been held here for over 9 hours and having served in all those positions he doesn’t deserve to be treated in that manner as it degrades the office of the interior ministry,” said Otiende.

Lawyer Danstan Omari disparaged other counts in reference to the previous ruling made by justice Marwa.

“It is until the date they present the charge sheets then we as his lawyers will present him before the court to be charged,” Omari said.

Azimio One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga also arrived at the headquarters to show his solidarity to the former CS.
