Former Nairobi Govenor Mike Sonko has filed an application in court to stop the declaration by Azimio la umoja for monday as public holiday.
High court Justice Hedwig Ongudi in her order said that there are laid down procedures for declaration of public holiday and the same has not been declared by the cabinet secretary of Interior Kithure Kindiki.
The judge certified the application as urgent and ordered sonko serve his application for interparties hearing on Tuesday, March 21.
The opposition leader Raila Odinga illegally declared Monday a public holiday as he ramps up support for the planned rally on Monday.
The Azimio la Umoja leader plans to lead a grand anti-government march in Nairobi to protest several issues including the high cost of living and electoral process.
Raila plans to demand for electoral reforms and accountability from Ruto’s administration.
He has accused President William Ruto of mismanaging the economy, violating human rights and undermining devolution.
The President, on the other hand, has dismissed Raila’s protests as a desperate attempt to cause chaos and disrupt peace in the country.
