A court ruled Friday that Shakahola cult leader Paul Mackenzie, his wife Rhoda Maweu and his 16 followers will remain in police custody for five days.
The Shanzu court in Mombasa County will on May 10 deliver a ruling on a request by police to detain them for 90 days.
Mr Mackenzie and the others are being investigated for crimes including murder, helping people kill themselves, aiding suicide, radicalisation and child cruelty.
