Nairobi expressway which was destroyed by protesters during the anti government protests organized by the opposition last week has resumed operations at the Mlolongo, Syokimau and the standard gauge railway toll stations.
Despite the ongoing repairs Moja expressway limited has urged motorists to exercise caution while driving.
During the Azimio la Umoja demonstrations on Wednesday, angry protesters destroyed metal grills that separated sections of the expressway.
Damages to the expressway to cost over Ksh 700
The incident prompted Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to visit the site to assess the damage.
Condemning the vandalism, Murkomen estimated that the repair of the expressway would cost approximately 700 million shillings.
“We witnessed pre planned attacks on key infrastructure. They came with equipment to cut copper wires. They targeted materials that they could sell, “he said
Following the incident, the government vowed that the organizers of the protests will bear the cost of repairing the damaged sections of the 87 billion shillings road.
“The damage could be over 5 million dollars on the expressway not adding the damage to the railway stations,”
