Knut ,Government New Curriculum War Continues
Push and pull between Kenya National Union Of Teachers and the Ministry of Education over new curriculum and the Competency Based Curriculum roll out continues with the union now saying parliament was sidelined in the process .
Speaking to media today KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion accused the Ministry of Education under stewardship of top official of evading the parliament in the whole process of adopting new curriculum that is is seeking to wipe out the 8-4-4 system.
‘‘ I have said several times that Kenyan teachers are still not equipped to have CBC roll out in classrooms, the trainers of this curriculum itself are incompetent and do not have skills to impart on teachers.’’Sossion said.
This comes a day after government’s warning on teachers who will not heed to CBC roll out programmes in classrooms that they will be sacked immediately.
Government spokesman Cyrus Ogina says the CBC roll out will continue despite opposition by KNUT.
According to him government has done enough to ensure it is effected without further delays.
Knut wants the roll out process stopped indefinitely, more teachers to be employed and schools infrastructure upgraded before the government can go ahead on the same.
