National men’s volleyball team dream of gracing this year’s All African Games went up in smoke on Tuesday following straight sets defeat to Rwanda, in the ongoing qualifiers at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.

The hosts went down against the tiny East Africa nation by sets of 24 – 26, 23 – 25 and 24 – 26, and the defeat was a bitter pill to swallow moreso bearing in mind that the it was administered by non other than after Paul Bitok, the towering on-demand home coach who has for the last 10 years coached Rwanda, and is showing no signs of slowing down.

Despite having one match to play, on Wednesday, against the fearsome Egypt,  in the tournament organised in a round-robin format, the Moses Epoloto coached side who won 3-2 against Uganda in the opening match are mathematically out following Egypt’s 3-1 win against Uganda on Tuesday.

The North African side has six points after winning the first two matches and even if Kenya beats them tomorrow, they’ll qualify in the unlikely event that red-hot Rwanda loses to Uganda.

It is not an impossibility but the probability is quite remote seeing that the Paul Bitok coached charges have instilled fear in the opponents, going by their riotous form.

Should the matches go as the pundits have predicted thus following a familiar rhyme of the bookmakers, and Egypt crush a free falling Kenya, then the sets ratio difference will determine the winner.

The three-day competition has attracted four teams namely; Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Egypt.

Following the result, national women’s volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, will be the only consolation for Kenya at the All African Games fiesta set for Morocco in August after clinching the corresponding women ticket a fort night ago in Uganda.
