Kenyans have trooped to social media sites to hail national soccer team Harambee Stars following their stunning victory over Taifa Stars of Tanzania.
Sebastian Migne’s men came from behind to trounce their Tanzania opponents 3-2 in what was dubbed East African derby.
Taifa Stars took an early lead through Simon Msuva’s goal that was easily converted after keeper Patrick Matasi parried a shot from Tanzanian captain Mbwana Samatta.
Kenya equalised in the 39th minute through China-based striker Michael Olunga’s acrobatic overhead kick that impressed fans.
The celebration for the equaliser was, however, short-lived after Tanzanian and Genk based striker Samatha beat Kenyan defenders to slot in a low shot putting Taifa Stars ahead again.
Kenya made a comeback in the second half through Johanna Omolo’s near-post header and Olunga’s impressive low shot that thwarted Tanzania’s shot stopper Aishi Manula, putting Harambee Stars ahead with the scores ending at 3-2 at final time.
Kenyan fans trooped social media sites shortly after the game and heaped praise on the team for the hard fought victory.
Here are some of the reactions:
As expected, the reaction were not free of jibes and taunting memes directed at Tanzanian supporters.
