Lubaina Islam Ali of Mombasa Aquatics and Tugi Mwige of Aga Khan Academy starred in girls events during day one of the Coast Amateur Athletics Association (Casa) Age Group Swimming Championship.

Twelve-year-old Lubaina started the day winning 12-13 years 1,500 meters freestyle event in a good time of 19 minutes 52.61 seconds before taking the 200m individual medley title clocking 2:43.29.

Tugi, 11, made a remarkable start in the girls 10-11 years 1,500m when she returned 23:28.85 prior to winning the 400m and 200m individual medley events in 6:48.63 and 3:10.31 respectively.

Riva Karia of Bandari Swim Club won gold medal in girls 16 years and over 400m individual medley when she swam in 5:47.96.

In the boys’ category, Ivan Hart of Aga Khan Academy who on September 15 set three national records in 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle and 100m backstroke events at the same venue when he was in the 10-11 years bracket won the 1,500m freestyle event, his first title in 12-13 years by clocking 19:09.78.

Hart was followed by Coast Swim Club’s Twalib Hamza who returned 22:35.11 with I-Em-Hotep Mutinda of Aga Khan Academy taking third position in 23:30.66.

In boys 10-11 1,500m freestyle, Joshua Masaka of Aga Khan Academy emerged the winner when he took 24:03.44 beating his school mate who finished in 24: 22.33.

The boys 16 years and over 1,500m freestyle was won by Mohammed Suleiman of Blue Ocean SC who completed in 18:04.20 with Coast Academy’s Ebrahimjee Amar taking second position in 223:21.38.

Aheer Chatterjee of Aga Khan Academy returned 18:02.82 to win the 1,500m freestyle event with Trevor Mwamisi of Oshwal Aacademy coming second in 21:01.07.

In girls 12-13 years 400m individual medley, Maria Bianchi of Shree Swaminarayan Academy (SSA) was the winner in 5:51.75, followed by Gakenia Mwige (5:54.94) as Oshwal Academy’s Kreeshi Shavdia satisfied with thir place (6:38.58).

Nyali Primary School swimmers dominated the boys 12-13 years 400m individual event finishing the first five places. Khaldun Khuweylid emerged the winner (6:57.09) followed by Adnan Abdulaziz (7:39.27) and Shawn Wande finishing third (7:53.51), Kevin Kiama fourth (8:07.81) and Mark Bifwoli fifth (8:13.64).
