Kenya’s Harambee Stars is set to face Mozambique in an international friendly match today at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani from 4p.m.
The Stars will use the friendly match as part of their preparations for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in which Kenya is in Group G alongside Egypt, Togo, and Comoros.
Addressing the press on Friday, Harambee Stars head coach Francis Kimanzi termed the match an important one for the team saying:
“I have had good training sessions with the players in Nairobi. The focus was specifically on the big number of players we wanted to see and prepare them for the match. We made a decision to call players, more so those we don’t see in action every day, and give them an opportunity so that we can clear any doubts.”
“The team is strong and we want to give this competition our best. Kenya can make it two in a row for the appearance at the AFCON and Cameroon 2021 is a reality.”
The Mozambique team arrived in Nairobi on Friday.
Kenya will seek to maximize on the fixture having forfeited an earlier match against Libya in Tripoli over what FKF termed as ‘logistic challenges.’
All eyes will also be on Kimanzi who took over from Sebastian Migne. Kimanzi’s first match was against neighbors Uganda which ended in a 1-1 draw in Nairobi.
