Deputy President William Ruto has linked Thursday’s arrest of a man with election-related materials to a well-calculated scheme to force the electoral agency to abandon the use of electronic equipment in next month’s polls.

Ruto who was in Kilifi and Mombasa Counties Friday alleged that the arrest of persons who are officials of a firm contracted by the independent electoral and boundaries commission for the poll, was made after a realization that his rival Raila Odinga of Azimio la Umoja was going to lose the poll.

“Yesterday they arrested people working for IEBC because they have realized they don’t have the numbers to win the election,” He said

“Raila started by saying he wants a manual register, in 2017 he didn’t want the manual register, he now says he doesn’t have faith in IEBC,” he added

He argued that the only way Raila’s camp wants to force the use of manual register is by “frustrating IEBC and officials in charge of electronic systems. We will not allow you to frustrate the electoral commission which is an independent institution,”

“And we are asking the police to refuse being used by Azimio to undermine next month’s elections. Kenyans are ready to cast their votes, and we are telling them whether they like it or not, we will defeat them,” he said

According to Ruto who is seeking to take over from his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta after next month’s polls says Raila is just setting the stage to oppose the election’s outcome.
