They are not all good mama’s boys and girls. Some of Kenya’s top celebrities have had a brush with the law.
Here is a list of celebrities who were guests of the states and some even had to be handcuffed.
Timmy T Dat
The Dush Nyau hitmaker has denied on numerous occasions that he was arrested at the airport. Reports claim that the rapper had a weapon in his luggage.
The rapper who was travelling to Eldoret ahead of his show was forced to delay for a while as they went through his belongings only to realize that he had nothing on him.
Timmy T Dat claims that he was a victim of profiling thanks to his tattoed torso. Adding that the only guns he owns are his biceps and the gun tattoed on the side of his body.
Bahati
Benson Thuranira, a Kenyan businessman came out to expose singer Bahati for conning him over Ksh 200,000. This led to Bahati getting arrested by cops after a report was filed at Karuri Police station in October.
The case will be heard on January 11.
Meanwhile, Benson has claimed that Bahati used to ask him for cash when he was broke.
“He told me he is in a tight spot nimpatie pesa, alikua amesota hana kakitu. Nimekua nikimlipia mpaka DSTV yake, kuna time stima yake ilikua imekatwa, nikamlipia. Analipangwa, sijui pesa yake anapelekanga wapi, but that guy is broke hana chochote kabisa.”
Bahati denied ever been arrested.
Rose Muhando
Controversial singer Rose Muhando hit the headlines this year for all the wrong reasons.
The singer who was accused severally of being a drug addict, accusations that she has denied was held by police over claims that she used fraudulent means to acquire Sh950, 000.
Police in an area called Singinda, revealed that the singer was arrested after a church member was told she had moved homes after they sent her money. According to the provincial police commander Debora Magiligimba, members of AICT Church in Singinda received information that she had relocated.
The area police boss Magiligimba said, that on 3rd of November last year the chairman of Singida AICT Church Mashara Japheth sent Sh.800, 000 to Rose Muhando (38) through M-pesa to grace the launching of the Church choir on November 8th last year but she never turned up.
She said that before the launch Muhando had asked for more money and Sh 150, 000 was sent to her to carter for her transport from Dodoma to Singida together with her aids, but even after receiving the money she never turned up for the event. The organizers later discovered that the musician had relocated to Shinyanga Province where she was ministering and on June 1st police caught up with her.
Hart The Band
Hart The Band were arrested at the Koroga Festival when Diamond was performing. Revelers were not really sure of the reason behind their arrest, but they have finally taken there time to explain what exactly happened and the cause of their arrest.
In a long post they put up on social media, they stated what really happened.
“So yesterday at KOROGA FESTivAL minutes after Diamond ( @diamondplatinumz ) got on stage this happened 🔫We had a slight altercation with some Police officers 👮 it was Like a Movie🎬
We were being car-chased all round the parking lot by Police officers Left right and centre 🚔 For a second we felt like we I were in a Fast & Furious sequel 🚓.”
They went on to make it clear that they had done nothing wrong and the biggest problem was lack of communication.
“Please Understand this, we had not done anything wrong But from where we are From- the streets of KAYOLELESHWA- when we see the Cops coming towards you ,it’s either you take a U-TURN && Run or wait up for them a and feel the wrath 🏃 We decided to go with the latter – RUUUNNN!!! Like in every great Police /Robber movie ,we got arrested💥This was when Sh** got ReaL 🚾 Put in mind the fact that, the whole essence of running is not to get Caught – I guess we didn’t get the memo 😝 After getting arrested, being thrown in jail, spending almost 12hrs in a back _& forth trying to convince the cops that we didn’t run Because we were in the wrong – we Learnt a very important Lesson 📝 COMMUNICATION. ”
Cashy
Rapper Cashy confessed that she has had her own ordeal with police officers. This was way before she started datingKhaligraph Jones.
In a past date, Cashy revealed how she once got arrested while on a special date in Westlands.
Cops suddenly stormed in and arrested everyone in the premises. Apart from spending a few minutes inside a police van and the station, we were forced to part with the money we were to use on the date.
Cashy then went straight home after they were finally released by the cops.
Guardian Angel
Gospel artiste Guardian Angel has had his own fair share of struggles. What many people might not know is that he was a street kid.
When asked what makes his story different considering many people say they came from the streets, he said:
“What makes my story different is because it’s not fake, it’s a real story and I know it’s hard to tell a fake story because sometimes you might forget some of the stuff you said. Later on people will connect the stories you’ve told and they will realize you were actually telling lies. I was a street child and lived in the streets.”
Chito went ahead to ask him what moved him away from his mum
“We happened to have gotten to a place where it was a bit hard for us to hold on because she had lost her job and life was just hard and me being that kajamaa who doesn’t want to look at his mother go through some stuff so that life goes on and couldn’t just watch so I decided to go my way and let my mum figure her way out. I got arrested when I was in the streets. I was on the streets and I think the President at that time said the streets should be cleared. So I was among those who were cleared from the streets.”
Propesa Comedian, Larry Matayo
Nakuru-based comedians under the street moniker Propesa were in the limelight for all the wrong reasons. One of its members, Dennis Ruto who plays the role of Larry Matayo, was arrested yesterday for election fraud.
The news of his arrest hit the interwebs like wildfire. A video emerged of the Propesa member being frogmarched to the Nyayo Stadium police station after he was allegedly caught with election material.
They explained away the arrest saying it was a comedy sketch gone wrong.

Babu Owino
He is a rabble-rouser and getting arrested is no mean feat for Babu Owino.
His most publicised arrest was when he made derogatory remarks allegedly targeting President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Mheshimiwa says the worst of them all was when he got arrested on the eve of a biology paper.
“THE WORST OF IT ALL IS WHEN I WAS DOING MY KCSE EXAMS, ON THAT SPECIFIC NIGHT I WAS SELLING OF COURSE AS USUAL AND POLICE CAME, ARRESTED ME TOOK ME TO THE POLICE STATION IN KISUMU. THE OCS RELEASED ME THE FOLLOWING MORNING AT 8:30 AM. IT WAS CRAZY.”
Brown Mauzo
Popular Coast artiste Brown Mauzo broke the Internet after photos of him being handcuffed at a police station went viral.
Mauzo said he was arrested at a roundabout for careless driving.
“NILIKUA NAIROBI KWENYE ROUND ABOUT NILIKUA NAELEKEA STUDIO, MIMI MWENYEWE NILIKUA NA MAKOSA KWA SABABU SASA NILIKUA NACHUKUA VIDEO KIDOGO NAIMBA. POLISI WAKANIONA, KUVUTANAVUTANA TU”
He continued to say;
“NILIKUA NA MABESTE TUU KWA GARI SASA, TUNAFANYA VITU ZETU TUU, TUMEFUNGUA VIOO. MIMI NDIO NILIKUA NADRIVE.”

DJ Joe Mfalme
NEMA people arrested DJ Joe Mfalme. His mistake was paying music too loud.
Revellers at Tamasha in Nairobi were treated to a rare spectacle when one of the country’s most sought after deejays was arrested before being bundled into a van.
According to reports, Joe Mfalme was behind the decks entertaining partygoers when police officers invaded the party.
The men in blue whisked him out of the entertainment joint and ordered him to get into a van that had been parked outside.
However, the award-winning winning turntablist was released shortly afterwards thanks to the intervention of the club’s management. He went back to entertain revellers thereafter.
Diamond
This year saw Magufuli go tough on the war on drugs. As such, the police arrested a lot of Tanzanian personalities, especially in the entertainment arena.
At the time the net was blazing with rumours that the Bongo star was among the artists who have either been summoned or arrested. Diamond’s manager rubbished the claims.
