Edu spent five seasons with the north London club from 2001 and also had two spells with Corinthians and also played for Valencia under Unai Emery.

After retiring in 2010, he became Corinthians director of football and has been the general coordinator of the Brazil national team, a role similar to the one he has taken with Arsenal.

He will be on the flight to the United States as Arsenal’s pre-season tour gets underway on Thursday, July 11.
