NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 2 – It is a new dawn in the property market after the Association of Real Estate Developers launched a dedicated website that will provide all details on all matters related to land.
The association also launched a short USSD code, which one can use in case of any query.
Speaking during the launch, Chair of the Association of Real Estate Developers Kinyua Wairatu said the new move was part of his ambitious plan to restore confidence and dignity in the industry that has been tainted by scandals.
“We have decided to bite the bullet as far as confidence in real estate is concerned. This website will be a one stop shop where all genuine land selling companies will be included,” Said Wairatu.
“The website also has our constitution where every Kenyan will get to understand our rules. Days of hiding are over and we are telling Kenyans that real estate will never again be associated with scandals,” he added.
Wairatu said that as part of restoring dignity in the sector, the association will, by the end of this year, also issue certificates to all genuine companies.
“We want Kenyans to know where to invest and where not to invest. Kenyans should be vigilant and trade with companies which are under our association,” he said.
George Waciuri from Optiven Limited urged the government to work closely with the sector, saying they not only offer employment opportunities but also pay taxes.
According to Waciuri, the real estate sector has the potential to contribute about 30 percent of taxes.
“We are only asking for partnership because this industry has the potential to transform this country. We not only create jobs but also pay taxes which are necessary for the growth of this country,” he said.
