Aston Villa’s Anwar El Ghazi was close to seeing red after headbutting teammate Tyrone Mings during his sides Premier League clash with West Ham on Monday night, September 16, at Villa Park.

The incident which took place inside the Villa box saw other teammates pull the pair apart after coming face-to-face.

Things turned sour between the two Villa stars after Mings blamed the Dutchman for not coming back to help out in defence, shouting on top of his voice as he approached El Ghazi.

However, El Ghazi, reacted angrily and responded with words of his own as the pair sized up each other, just before the 24-year-old attempted to plant his head on the 26-year-old English star.

Aston Villa midfielder Marvelous Nakamba and defender Bjorn Engels intervened separated their teammates, quelling the feud before fists were drawn.

At the end, El Ghazi was lucky to remain on the pitch, with referee Mike Dean deciding to calm down both players rather than punish them for ‘friendly fire’ exchanged.

After a quick check with VAR, officials concluded to overlook the offence and nt punish them for their action.

However, Sky Sports pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville both took differing stands with the former Neville saying El Ghazi should have been punished and Crragher dismissing it

“I wouldn’t like to see anyone get sent off for that,” the former Liverpool star stressed.

“It’s never great that. He’s actually taken a risk there El Ghazi,” the Manchester United star admitted.

“I’d be fuming if I was Tyrone Mings. Throwing his head towards him is a step too far.”

The scores were 0-0 when the incident occured and remained the same at full time with the Hammers and the Villains sharing points.S
