President Uhuru Kenyatta says investigative agencies leading the war against corruption and tax evasion are not acting on his orders.

In his latest warning to corrupt officers, Kenyatta said anyone involved in graft should be ready to carry their own cross when State machinery led by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions goes after them.

The Head of State was speaking during the flagging off of Kenya’s first shipment of crude oil at the Kipevu Oil Terminal in Mombasa.

“These guys have decided it’s do or die. When they catch up with you, just know I don’t give instructions to them. It is you who has been caught on the wrong.  We will only read it on the newspapers that you have been nabbed. So wherever you are, keep your eyes open and be very careful with what you do,” said Kenyatta.

He added: “Right now, there is no making calls saying you are in trouble and pleading for help, carry own cross.”

This comes amid reports of an ongoing probe against Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) officials accused of inflating the cost of the New Kipevu Oil Terminal from the budgeted Ksh.12 billion to Ksh.40 billion through fraudulent procurement.

“Here at the port, we are monitoring and watching you. We know the money you were supposed to use, what you used and what you intended to use. We also know what you do to slow down clearance of cargo and also sneak goods into the country,” said Kenyatta.

At the same time, the government has been accused of using investigating agencies in the graft purge to target certain individuals, claims the president has since dismissed.
