Bob Marley and the Wailers recently earned a Gold Certification in the UK for their single ‘Waiting In Vain’.

The reggae icon continues to have a firm grip on the music scene nearly four decades after his demise.

Last Friday September 1, the British Pornographic Industry released it’s list of certifications from multiple genres Silver, Gold and Platinum.

‘Waiting In Vain’ was among the songs that received the Gold Certification indicating that it sold more than 400,000 copies.

The single ‘Waiting In Vain’ is now Bob Marley and the Wailers 10th single to earn a Gold Certification in the UK.

It was released in 1977 and featured on the classical album, Exodus produced at Island Records.

It was also featured on the Deluxe Edition by Rebel Music and also on the Legend, The Best Of Bob Marley and The Wailers compilation.

The album holds the record for the longest number 1 reggae album in history.

Bob Marley and The Wailers current Platinum certified selling over 600,000 copies in the UK are Jammin, Is This Love, No woman, No cry, Buffalo Soldier, Could You Be Love and On Love.

Others with certified Silver in the UK are Stir It Up, I Shot The Sheriff and Get Up Stand Up which sold more than 200,000 copies.

Last year, the single ‘Three Little Birds’ was also certified double platinum translating to 1, 200, 000 copies.

The single’s rise in Europe was orchestrated by the Dutch Football Club who embraced the song as their unofficial anthem.

Coming January next year, is the Paramount Bob Marley biopic which will detail the making of the iconic album, Exodus.

The song held position 27 on the UK singles chart and spent several weeks on its return.
