The body of Young Boys and Switzerland star midfielder, Florijana Ismaili, has been discovered days after she went missing during a swimming accident at Lake Como in Italy.

The disappearance of the 24-year-old was confirmed after she jumped into the lake from a boat and failing to resurface on Saturday afternoon, June 29.

However, after three days of frantic searches by Italian rescue services, her body was finally retrieved, with authorities divulging she was found at a depth of 204 metres.

“Young Boys has, in consultation with the bereaved family, the painful duty to inform about the passing away of the player Florijana Ismaili. We are very upset and deeply affected,” Young Boys said in a statement.

“Young Boys extends its sincere condolences to the family, relatives, and friends of Florijana Ismaili and wishes everyone all the strength and confidence in this difficult time. We will keep Florijana in our memory,” the statement concluded.

Ismaili made her international debut with Switzerland in 2014 and has since earned 33 caps with the national team.

Until her demise, she captained Swiss outfit BSC Young Boys women’s team who she joined in 2011 from FC Walperswil.
