Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has named new regional commanders as reforms take shape.

Boinett on Thursday said the new commanders will be deployed to their new stations with immediate effect.

They are Marcus Ochola – Coast, Eunice Kihiko – Eastern, Judy Lanet – Central, Philip Ndolo – Nairobi, Edward Mwamburui – Rift Valley, Paul Soi – North Eastern, Vincent Makhoha – Nyanza and Rashid Yakub – Western.

While naming the commanders, Boinnet said the current regional police commanders from Kenya Police and those from Administration police have been recalled and redeployed within the National Police Service.

He said there should be no cause for alarm as no one has lost their jobs in the redeployment.

We have made numerous considerations in the renaming of the new commanders. We seriously looked at their service record, experience, age region and gender parity. We shall be making another announcement with regard to county commanders,” Boinett said.

He said the new regional commanders will be fully in charge of all police operations and must coordinate with county commanders to ensure effective policing for the time being.

“I want to assure all Kenyans that police reforms and transformation are on course. We have started implementing the directives given to us in September last year by President Uhuru Kenyatta and as we speak all the police have received their first house allowance for last month,” the IG said.

He said as a result those who do not have houses under the police housing project are expected to seek alternative housing by end of this month.

Boinnet said they have already procured the new uniforms with materials sourced from local manufacturers.

Let it be known that this project is also about adding value chain to our local markets. The uniforms will be stitched by our NYS,” he said.

The IG said the service is looking forward to launching its first digitisation program Monday next week.

“We are migrating from the manual; way of doing things to full digitisation and we shall focus on three areas. This includes personnel management, administrative procedures, occurrence book and crime management system,” Boinett said.

This he said will ensure a more responsive police that effectively delivers services.
