As the deadline for demonetization approaches fast, businesses all over the country are growing hesitant in accepting the old 1000 notes. While Central Bank continues its charm offensive on demonetization, several retailers have announced individual deadlines on the old notes.
Some service providers are not taking the old 1,000 notes despite the deadline being 7 days away.
Here is a list of some of the businesses that have issued deadlines for accepting old 1,000 notes.
- The US consulate in Kenya – 12 September.
- Some Petrol Stations (Total) – 20 September.
- Fast food Joint (Pizza Inn) – 26 September.
- Safaricom shops – 26 September.
- Commercial Banks – 30 September.
Recently, Safaricom announced that its shops would cease accepting old notes by Thursday 26 September. The move will allow the Telco giant adequate time to facilitate cash in transit among other banking procedures.

Kenyans are advised to exchange their old notes before 30 September, after which old 1000 notes will cease to be legal tender.
