Bwala Africa, the Nairobi-based last-mile logistics startup has announced it has raised undisclosed funding expected to help bolster its tech platform for its growing customers.
“The investment will definitely have an impact on our commercial growth and this automatically also doubles our market valuation, so it comes at the right time and we are very privileged to work with our partners,” said Kennedy Nyabwala, Bwala Africa’s founder and CEO.
With a new platform on the way, Bwala Africa is also revamping its mobile apps ready to take on players like Sendy, Kobo360, Lori, Senga among others.
Bwala Africa has also officially started fundraising for its series A round which it says will help it to build a nationwide agent network and grow its customers’ and numbers on both the supply and demand side.
“We have made over 100,000 + lastmile order fulfilments,” said Kennedy Nyabwala, founder and CEO Bwala. ” Our main focus is to make 6000 to 8000 drops per day and sign up over 2000 agents in Kenya to assist in the placement of orders and recruitment of new last-mile partners.”
Bwala currently does 700 to 850 shipments on a daily basis with its clients ranging from e-commerce companies, manufacturers and retailers.
In June this year, Bwala was recently selected for this year’s Bosch – Founders factory smart mobility accelerator program that will be held on the 5th of November 2019 in Johannesburg.
Seven months ago, Bwala Africa announced it had raised undisclosed funding from Justin Caldbeck, a Silicon Valley investor in startups such as Grubhub, Snapchat, Stitchfix, Taskrabbit, Uber, and Opendoor.
The firm said it was going to launch BwalaPay escrow payment service to help people make money or be paid online without having to leave the comfort of their homes and offices. Some of its clients include Jumia, Naivas, Copia among others.
In April, Bwala Africa announced that Davis Angwenyi had joined the firm as Co-Founder and CTO. David, an ex-Craft Silicon where he was used to work with logistics app developers and avoiding unnecessary payment gateways and ERP solutions to mega & micro – retailers.
Bwala also used the money to expand to Kampala, Uganda. Caldbeck joined Bwala Africa as a Board Member. Bwala Africa also raised Ksh 24,000,000 debt financing from South African-based bank CFC Stanbic in September last year.
