Campaigns to find a successor to Kilifi county governor Amason Kingi (Pictured above)are set to begin early in Kilifi county. This is after various political leaders in the county seemed to be openly campaigning for politicians whenever they have the opportunity to speak at events or meetings around the county.
Some of the leaders who have been promoting the campaigns are MP for Kilifi North Owen Baya who given an opportunity to speak at any event or meeting, goes full blast to announce his ambition to inherit the much coveted governor’s seat in 2022.
According to source in the county, Kingi and other ODM party leaders have a different agenda. The source indicated that the beneficiary has been found but it is held a secret to avoid occurrences of internal conflicts in the ODM party.
The source close to the governor confessed that the governor and his party know that Malindi MP, Aisha Jumwa is the person who would bring an end to the plan. Therefore, the governor and his party comrades mooted a plan to scuttle and smash Jumwa’s political career.
The analysts further revealed that Kingi and his party lieutenants persuaded ODM MCAs to cooperate and ensure that they got rid of Jumwa politically and the tactics they used to stave off Jumwa depended on Ganda’s by-election, where Jumwa refused to field leader of the Republican Party Reuben Mwamure and instead backed incumbent Abdulrahman Omar who was an independent candidate in the by-election despite the fact that Jumwa was elected through the ODM party.
The source also disclosed that the trap used to nab Jumwa was intended to be used to capture the Kilifi North MP Owen Baya in Dabaso in a by-election expected shortly after the court’s decision to dismiss the local MCA’s victory Emmanuel Changawa of the ODM party following a court case filed by Dickson Karani of Wiper party to oppose his election. The court ordered the reelection.
The pundits have also seen the five MCAs of the Malindi county aim to initiate the process of gathering 5,000 signatures from voters where in each ward they will collect 1,000 signatures against Jumwa. They claim that if the conspiracy is successful, then the plan is for the Malindi MP seat to be contested by Philip Charo who has tried for it Jubilee party ticket before and lost.
But if the plan fails to yield the desired fruits, then by 2022, the plans set out are for the ODM party ticket to replacement of the Malindi parliamentary seat that could be given to Philip Charo, just as it did in the Ganda by-election where ODM took Reuben Katana from the Kadu Asili Party and gave him its ticket.
Meanwhile, some sources say that the county’s women’s representative Gertrude Mbeyu has been trying to convince Mombasa county governor Hassan Joho who is the deputy leader of the ODM party and Kingi to issue Gideon Mung’aro the ODM party ticket to go for the seat of Kilifi governor on.
Some of those in the know have questioned Baya’s conspiracy to get rid of the ticket of a local MCA Emmanuel Changawa and hand it over to Hamza Omar, the former MCA of the area.
This came to light after Changawa appeared to have close ties to Mung’aro Maitha. However, Mung’aro was alleged to have no relationship whatsoever with Baya
Baya is also allegedly inciting Changawa to join ODM, claiming to have been a close ally of Malindi MP Jumwa and who allegedly rebelled against the party.
It is also said that they have tried to push the county clerk Arnold Jefwa a native of Jilore, Malindi, to run for the Kilifi North constituency seat.
So far, there are two MCAs who were elected independently. They are George Baya of Watamu and Tom Chengo from Tezo wards.
It has also been revealed that Mbeyu has been trying to be picked for the 2022 deputy governor’s seat.
One of the aspirants for the 2022 governor’s seat is Gabriel Katana, county minister of education in Kilifi county.
Apparently, it has been revealed that Michael Kingi, a member of Magarini subcounty, who is the Kilifi governor’s brother, is secretly planning to succeed the governor seat in 2022.
