Christians in Nairobi throng churches to celebrate birth of Jesus Christ

Hundreds of Christians in Nairobi thronged churches to join their counterparts in the world to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem over 2000 years ago.

During the summons Christians were challenged to use the birth of Christ to promote peace and togetherness for a better world.

While leading the Christmas vigil mass at Holy Family Basilica, Father Peter Kamomoe called on Kenyans to embrace Christian teachings to overcome the many challenges and ills facing this nation.

The priest also urged Christians and Kenyans not to be swayed by the merry making of the season and forget that Christ was born to simplicity to unite the world. In Mombasa, it was all celebrations as holiday goers ushered in Christmas in style at the coastal city.

Security in the town has been scaled up to ensure the ambience remains that of merry making.

Coast Regional police boss Noah Mwivanda assured the revelers of their security saying officers had been deployed across the region to ensure the celebrations mood is not interrupted.

Meanwhile, President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday night joined Christian faithful for a Christmas Eve Mass at the Holy Ghost Cathedral in Mombasa County.

During the mass, the Head of State passed a message of forgiveness and compassion.

The president urged Kenyans to love one another and spread the Christmas spirit by sharing with the less fortunate.

The President was flanked by his wife Margaret Kenyatta.

The President is in Mombasa County where he will spend the festive season.
