Embu NCCK Chairman Bishop Njeru Njaga said the eviction was untimely and shouldn’t have been done when the Country is had hit by the third wave of COVID-19.
He said the inhumane manner of the eviction only exposed the evictees to the disease.

The bishop further decried the fact that the displaced residents are now sheltered and crowded in nearby primary schools.

The council said once schools reopen next week the evictees will be left with no place to go if the Government does not provide an alternative place for them to settle.

The evictees sheltered at Ndunguni Primary School were evicted from Mbondoni area, allegedly owned by Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority (TARDA), in Makima two weeks ago.

The residents have challenged TARDA to prepare and present the list of those who were compensated for the land they claim to own, wondering how 10, 000 acres out of 54, 000 acres in Makima Ward was acquired by the authority.
