A Nairobi-based motorist has been charged with issuing death threats contrary to Section 223 (1) of the Penal Code for allegedly threatening another motorist in a road rage incident.

Ibrahim Mohammed Maalim allegedly threatened to kill Ahmedsadak Abshir in Eastleigh, Nairobi on February 18, 2023. He is said to have brandished a knife while uttering the words, “I will cut your neck with this knife”.

A Makadara Law Court heard that the accused and the complainant were driving on the same road before the former accused the latter of causing an obstruction.

A heated argument ensued before Maalim alighted from his vehicle with a knife and threatened to chop off Abshir’s neck while hurling insults at him.

Abshir remained in his vehicle before police officers on patrol arrived at the scene and arrested Maalim.

Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Mary Njagi, the accused denied the charges.

The court released him on a bond of Sh500,000.

The matter will be mentioned on March 28 while the hearing starts on May 8, 2023.
